Emily and Seán top baby names in Westmeath

Emily and Seán were the top baby names in Westmeath last year, according to the Central Statistics Office.

Emily has retained the top spot as most popular name in Westmeath for two years running now.

The name also came top in South Dublin and County Clare.

Second and third placing girls’ names in Westmeath last year were Sophia and Millie.

Meanwhile, Seán was the most popular boys name in Westmeath for 2023 - a name favoured by no other county.

Noah had been top pick the year previous.

Nationally, Jack has been the most popular boys name for seven years in a row now.

Grace was also the most popular girls across Ireland last year - knocking the previous year’s top choice Emily off the number one spot.

There were 9,172 distinct newborn names registered nationally in 2023.
