Participants wanted for dementia research

Occupational therapist, Simone Ryan, is looking for individuals living with early-to-middle-stage dementia to take part in a research study.

Simone is completing this research as part of her master’s degree in the University of Galway.

This research will trial a group program called ‘Cognitive Stimulation in Activities of Daily Living (CS-ADL)’.

CS-ADL groups involve a range of mentally stimulating and enjoyable activities such as discussion, reminiscence, physical games, music, cooking, and gardening.

These activities aim to challenge participants’ memory and maintain their skills in everyday life.

CS-ADL groups are small, consisting of around five to seven people with dementia, allowing participants to meet and learn from other people experiencing similar changes in their memory and thinking.

CS-ADL sessions will be held once weekly for two hours and will run for seven weeks total. They will take place in St Mary’s Care Centre, Mullingar.

The groups are expected to start at the beginning of April.

Individuals who are interested in taking part will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires and assessments before and after the study.

The results of the assessments will solely be used to test whether the study was of any benefit.
