Blasta Brass brush up for Big Busk for Focus Ireland
Among the acts lined up for the Big Busk for Focus Ireland tomorrow are Blasta Brass, who are part of Mullingar Town Band.
They’re playing at Liffey Valley at 5.30pm tomorrow, Friday April 12.
Brendan Hoye, Gerry Baker, Ger Dunne and Aidan Magee are the management team who run Blasta Brass, and they will be joined tomorrow by 12 of the 15 members for the Big Busk.
They play a range of music, and acknowledge their Mullingar roots by playing Joe Dolan and Niall Horan hits.
This is their first time to do the Big Busk and they’re looking forward to it, Brendan told the Westmeath Examiner.
“Blasta Brass are a 15-piece, and we call it a New Orleans style brass band. In recent years, there’s been an expansion in that style, or that format, which started with the likes of the Hot 8 or the Dirty Dozen from New Orleans, and then bands in Europe, a number of bands doing this type of street performance, and that’s what we’ll be doing in Liffey Valley tomorrow.”
They play their own arrangements of pop, soul, funk, blues, rock and hip-hop classics, said Brendan.
