Feasibility study training facility at St Peter’s, Castlepollard
Fianna Fáil TD for Longford Westmeath, Robert Troy, and Fianna Fáil local election candidate for the Kinnegad LEA, Alfie Devine, have welcomed confirmation from the recent LWETB board meeting that the HSE has given permission for a feasibility study on the exploration of a possible educational and training facility at St Peter’s Castlepollard.
St Peter’s Hospital as a HSE complex has been under utilised for several years.
Deputy Troy said: "This is welcome news. The St Peter’s Hospital complex is a prominent site locally that has enormous potential. Repurposing it as an educational and training facility is something that I, along with Alfie, strongly support.
"The feasibility study is just an initial step, however, it means that there is an opportunity for the exploration of a pathway towards the further development of Castlepollard Community College and for improved educational and training facilities.
"We look forward to feeding into the feasibility study. Where we want to get to, is for St Peter’s to be enabled to offer apprenticeships, traineeships and Just Transition courses that would benefit people to gain employment or start their own businesses and strengthen the local economy."
