SIPO hearing next month into Deputy Robert Troy's failure to fully declare his property interests

The Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) is to hold an investigation hearing next month on Deputy Robert's Troy failure to fully declare his property interests to the Dail Register of Members’ Interests.

The hearing is scheduled to take place on June 10 in the Commission's offices.

Deputy Troy stepped down as Minister of State in the Department of Enterprise in August 2022 after The Ditch revealed that he had failed to register all of his property interests.

Last December, SIPO announced that it was proceeding with a full investigation into Deputy Troy's failure to provide a full picture of his property interests.

It also announced that it was not proceeding with a full investigation into a suggested conflict of interest between Mr Troy's Dail statements on the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) and his role as a landlord in receipt of RAS payments from some tenants.

In his statement announcing his resignation as Junior Minister in August 2022, Deputy Troy said that had “not tried to conceal anything” and that he was "more than happy” to answer any questions SIPO have.

“My biggest offence is my lack of due diligence. However, one issue in isolation is excusable, but the number of errors now that are of my making directly or indirectly has led me to this decision.”

In a statement this morning (Wednesday May 15), Deputy Robert Troy said: "I welcome confirmation from SIPO that a hearing date has been set for next month. As previously stated, I am fully committed to engaging with SIPO. I won't be making any further comment until after the hearing is completed."
