U16s to be banned from using e-scooters in public places

New laws governing the use of electric scooters come into force next week.

They dictate that those younger than 16 won't be permitted to use them in public places.

The speed limit for e-scooters is to be 20kmh.

The use of e-scooters to carry more than one person at a time won't be permitted, and they won't be permitted to have seats fitted.

There are other stipulations on size, power, and modifications.

The Road Traffic (Electric Scooters) Regulations 2024 come into operation on May 20.
