Pollard traffic calming measures need to be reviewed 'before something serious happens' - LE candidate
The recently installed traffic calming measures on the Dublin Road in Castlepollard need to be reviewed “as a matter of urgency” before there is a serious accident.
That's according to Sinn Féin local election candidate Maureen Pigott. In a press release issued this week, Ms Pigott said that while canvassing in Castlepollard a number of people said that recently traffic calming measures near the garda station have made the road more dangerous.
“One resident invited me to sit outside his home for 15 minutes with him and watch the chaos, which I can only describe as frightening. Car after car, did not slow down at the narrowing in fact it was more like a game of chicken, who could make it first. There are black tyre marks all over the road where cars are constantly screeching to a halt.
“Other residents described how their children have been woken by this sound in the middle of the night and they fear some night the screech will end in a crash.
“It is imperative that this matter be reviewed as a matter of urgency. I advise that and updated traffic management survey should be carried out of the potential risks to pedestrians, cyclists and all road users.
“If not taken seriously, it is only a matter of time before something serious happens on this stretch of road.
“In this regard, if elected as a councillor Westmeath County Council I will continue to pursue this matter relentlessly until it is resolved.”
