LE Candidates Q&A: Ken Glynn (FF)

Mullingar LEA

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

Claire and I have built our life together, raising two incredible children, Laura and Conor. By day, I manage a retail store in Mullingar, but my true passion, since 1999, is representing our area, from my early days as Mullingar's first mayor to my current role chairing the Housing and Community SPC.

2. Why did you get involved in politics?

Growing up in a political household shaped my desire to advocate for our community. My dad (former senator Camillus Glynn), a public representative, influenced my passion to follow in his footsteps and make a difference.

3. What are the big issues?

Housing issues hit close to home for me. I witness the struggles first-hand in our community, spurring me to push for change. Whether it's fighting for more social or affordable housing, improving transportation services, such as extra train carriages, tackling traffic woes, and heritage preservation, such as a museum to take pride in our community – those are all part of my mission to build a better Mullingar.

4. Who is your role model?

My Dad, while we are very different in our approaches, we have always shared the same passion and determination to make our local area better in any way we can.

5. What are your hobbies?

When I'm not busy with community work, you'll find me cheering on Liverpool FC, Leinster rugby, and Westmeath GAA. Sports provide me with an escape, although finding time for golf, another passion of mine, can be a challenge.

6. Tell us one thing about yourself that people will be surprised to read

Walking into a crowded room can trigger my shy side, but once I'm there, my dedication to serving others helps me push past any discomfort.
