LE Candidates Q&A: Seamus McDermott (FG)

Kinnegad LEA

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

I am living in Fore all my life and have worked as a plumbing and heating contractor for more than 40 years, as well as working as a part-time farmer.

I have been involved in all aspects of my community, from supporting the local schools, the church and various local charitable causes and a deep involvement with the GAA especially with my own club, Ballycomoyle.

For every cause in Fore and the wider area, I have helped any organisation that requested assistance from me

2. Why did you get involved in politics?

I got involved in politics because I was always interested in the political system and if I am lucky enough to get elected, I feel I would be able to serve my own community and the wider constituency at a higher level

3. What are the big issues?

The big issues in this area, as far as I can witness on the canvass, are care of the elderly, the state of the roads and speed on both country roads and especially through towns and villages

4. Who is your role model?

Frank McDermott, a man who has served his community and his constituency since 1967, and is at the moment the longest-serving public representative in Ireland

5. What are your hobbies?

My hobbies are walking and cycling, as well as supporting hurling and football, but I also enjoy reading and going to the cinema.

6. Tell us one thing about yourself that people will be surprised to read

I sang in the Sydney Opera House!
