Liam Cassidy and Robbie McCarthy Snr after their victory in the All-Ireland 60x30 championship final against Mayo.

McCarthy and Cassidy win yet another All Ireland

Robbie McCarthy Snr and Liam Cassidy stormed through their All-Ireland DMAD 60x30 championship final against Mayo with a 21-2, 21-1 win. The duo won the title after an amazing paddle kill from Cassidy into the right-hand corner finished the match off. Congratulations to both and best wishes to Robbie McCarthy Snr in his Leinster Singles DMAS Final in Croke Park against his Kildare rival Mick Dowling.

Robbie McCarthy Jnr sailed through his round of 16 60x30 singles championship match against David Walsh of Cork with a 21-6, 21-7 win. Robbie Jnr now moves on to compete against Shane Dunne of Kilkenny in the quarter finals on Saturday June 15. This championship provides Robbie with the opportunity to match the number of senior singles titles of the record holder and legendary Ducksy Walsh. With Robbie going for his 23rd Senior Singles All-Ireland title this year, we would be hoping he’ll make it through to the semi finals to be played on Sunday June 16.

With Aoife McCarthy a top seed in the Ladies Championship, she received a bye to the quarter final. Aoife will also be out in action on Saturday June 15 against Cork's Aisling O’Keefe with the hope of making it through to the semi finals on Saturday June 22. Aoife is hungry for the championship this year and is ready to make her mark with the club celebrating their 70th anniversary along with the 100-year anniversary of handball within GAA.

Dylan Stenson of our Dads and Lads made it through his initial 60x30 Championship campaign match with a win over Kilkenny. Dylan made it through to the semi finals of the Men’s C Championship and played super handball, but unfortunately came up short to make it through to the final.

Mothers and Others

Our Mothers and Others who commenced their handball sessions in November 2023 met with Chris of Mary Street Pharmacy who recently sponsored the all-new club Mothers and Others jersey before they hit the road to Wicklow for their first inter-club Mothers and Others Day out.

The ladies played amazing handball with some exceeding their own expectations and had a great day of fun while forming friendships and learning new skills. A big done to all the ladies for all of their hard work and best of luck to them as they arrange the next Inter Club Day out to be hosted by Mullingar on 13th July.

Youth

Our All Stars are the heroes of our club and have been extremely lucky to have recently been announced as the National Lottery Good Causes Award County winners for Westmeath. Congratulations to all involved in this very special program and best wishes with the next round of the awards process. We are very proud to be the only All Stars handball club.

World Championship Fundraising

We have ten adults and fourteen youths, some of which have come through our All Stars program that are training hard and competing in the upcoming World Championships in August of this year. Members from the age of eight up to 60+ will hit the road to Limerick on August 17. They have commenced their fundraising campaign with the Youth Leadership Committee sending a number of letters to potential sponsors. The youth in the club also have a sponsored walk taking place in Belvedere on July 12 which happens to be our 70th Anniversary. They have a page set up on iDonate for all who wish to contribute to get these players to the Worlds which can be found at the following link; https://www.idonate.ie/cause/MullingarHandballClub
