Rose helps Rathwire pupils raise their fifth green flag
Westmeath Rose, Grace O’Connor, helped the pupils of St Joseph’s NS, Rathwire to raise their fifth green flag for biodiversity, on Tuesday June 18. Grace was delighted to join in the ceremony, as she is a past student of the school.
The principal, Sé McCarthy, hosted the ceremony, and thanked the green schools committee, led by Mrs O’Connor and Mr Delamere, for all their hard work over the last two years.
The school put in a lot of effort over the years to earn their flags.
At the end of last year, they planted a nature garden, with pumpkins, wild flowers, strawberries, cabbage and native trees.
In October, the Green-Schools Committee planted seeds in the Tidy Towns Garden, in Killucan village.
They held biodiversity days and events to celebrate minding their school this year.
All the classes completed curriculum work to help teach everyone about biodiversity and how to look after the planet.
Julianna Hennessy and Hannah Dunne, sixth class members of the Green-Schools Committee, said:
“It was a fun experience that we enjoyed over the years, and it will be sure to help our planet in the future.”
