Over €160,000 raised for charity at the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge

The Multyfarnham-based cancer support sanctuary LARCC received a cheque for €16,385 at a presentation event in McEvoy's Pub in Dromone on Saturday, July 13, as did the Palliative Care Fund. The Irish Cancer Society was the main beneficiary this year and received a cheque for €131,077.

Conor Madden from Cork was the individual who raised the most money and received the Sadie Fitzsimons Cup for his efforts, while the team from Tullamore firm Simply Baked was the group that raised the most funds.

Around 700 participated in this year's challenge, which is the 13th instalment of the event, with over 180 hardy souls completing the entire 50 miles.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, organising committee chairman Johnny Guirke expressed his thanks to the committee, volunteers, participants, and donors who made the event possible.

“It was a huge amount of money raised this year, and we are incredibly thankful to everyone who contributed in any way. Your support means the world to us and to those who will benefit from these funds,” Guirke stated.

“To date the Moylagh 50 Mile Challenge has raised €1,363,971. This is a testament to the dedication and generosity of the community and participants. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting the invaluable work these organisations do.”
