Funding secured for major new expansion at Loreto College

The Department of Education has approved funding for a major new expansion and renovation of Loreto College, Mullingar.

Announced yesterday (Thursday), the extensive works will include a new pastoral office, technology room, construction room, engineering room, science lab, graphics design lab, two project store rooms, a new staffroom, and library.

The news has been warmly welcomed by Deputy Robert Troy.

“Councillor Aoife David, who's a member of staff there, had highlighted to me that the college had put forward an application to the department for this significant renovation and extension works and I was pleased, having spoken to Minister Foley about it in the past, to get confirmation from her that she had sanctioned it to progress.

“A team will be appointed to design the proposal and it's important now that we've crossed the first hurdle, so to speak, that we continue to work with Minister Foley to ensure that this much much sought after extension renovation work, can progress through the various stages at speed.

“Loretta College is a fantastic college, providing great education to the girls and young women in Mullingar and the surrounding areas, and this shows the ambition of the principal and the teaching staff that they want to continually upgrade their school and enhance their service offering

“It beholds us as public representatives to work with them, the board of management, to ensure that this can progress through the next stages as quickly as possible.”
