Awards handed out as Tag rugby season comes to an end
The Mullingar Rugby Club wrapped up another exciting Tag rugby season on Thursday, marking the end of a summer filled with camaraderie, competition, and community spirit.
Newly elected club president, Ciarán Murtagh, expressed his delight at the success of this year’s Tag season, highlighting the sport’s growing popularity within the club.
“Tag is very successful. Every season, we see lots of new and old faces taking part in the various teams that buckle out through the summer.
“Tonight was our last of numerous games over the summer and we’re delighted to hand out the awards.
“We’d like to thank everyone at the club that helped out with such a fantastic event.
“Tag is a great entry to the sport and even a stand-alone sport in itself. The return numbers every week were testament to how enjoyable the game was,” Club President Ciaran Murtagh stated.
Ray Murphy, the local coach and under-16 girls coach, who also served as a referee for the TAG matches, echoed Murtagh's sentiments. “It was a great break over the summer when the weather was great. Even when it wasn’t so good, the regular Thursday evening Tag rugby provided a great break from our typical inclement Irish summer. The burgers provided by Connell and the post-match entertainment also helped a lot. We look forward to it again next season,” Murphy commented. The Tag rugby season has become a staple in Mullingar’s summer calendar, offering players of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to enjoy the sport in a fun, relaxed environment.
The club’s emphasis on inclusivity and community spirit has contributed to the event’s growing success each year. As the club looks forward to the next season, the members and supporters of Mullingar Rugby Club can reflect on another summer of thrilling Tag rugby, reinforcing the club’s reputation as a cornerstone of the local sports community.
