Manchán’s Europe By Train starts this weekend

Westmeath man Manchán Magan embraces the ethos of slow travel in his latest series, taking the time to get to know people and places, and experiencing local customs and traditions.

Using the vast rail network to travel clockwise around Europe, he visits a range of destinations including Wales, London, Brussels, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Zagreb, Lake Bled, Genoa, Monaco, Toulouse and San Sebastian.

Brendan O'Connor spoke to the Westmeath resident on his RTÉ radio show. on the RTÉ website, it reads:

“I gave up flying, and my travel-writing career ended”

Manchán Magan is a writer and documentary-maker, but in 2019 he decided he could no longer fly, knowing the impact it has on climate change.

Now a new RTÉ Television series follows Manchán as he embarks on an environmentally-friendly land and sea journey across Europe.

Manchán’s Europe by Train starts on Sunday 18 August at 6.30pm.
